Doorjamb side table-
The project is part of a collaboration with local dumpsters and
an attempt to evaluate local construction waste and reclaim
it. The object aims to enable flexible hosting scenarios in the
living room.
The upper part of the side table operates as a detachable tray
with a small cutting board. The board is elevated from the tray's
surface, enabling the easy transfer of food to a plate. The design
was informed by observations on elderly people and their hosting
scenarios. The metal leg enables the positioning of the side table
into the user's space while sitting on a couch or table.
This project was based on recycling wood waste from urban
construction dumpsters , later on cleaned and scanned (specialized
metal detector) for metal bits in the wood. The clean waste was
then transferred to a factory specializing in wood boxes production.
The metal part was separately produced. I did not manage to find
a stable source of sheet metal for the production and this was the
first time the studio's design incorporated new raw materials.
