Doorjambs-A wooden table designed for both indoor and outdoor use;
made from 100% scrap timber. The project starts at city
construction waste dumpsters; where the two types of
materials used in the table (outdoor hardwood decking and
pine doorjambs), can be found.
A study the studio conducted in the 3 dumpsters at the center
of Israel; indicated that most of the wood in these sites was
doorjambs made of old Pine. However in most sights every day
some Ipe beams could be found, mainly from dismantled outdoor
decking. The table attempts to combine the two wood types in
one design while taking into account the wood qualities in relation
to external use.
The design proposes different methods of addressing the harsh
Israeli sun through the construction and the materials.
The pine is processed and glued into two parts which function as
the side and legs of the table. The thin Ipe boards are locked into
grooves in the Pine sides. This method enables a flexible design
in which the different wood types expend and compress without
breaking the construction. The design also offers a sturdy robust
look with a relatively low weight.
